MARINE IMAGE OF THE MONTH

Fish Temple
Masses of fusiliers tower above the reef in the early morning.
I like to try and shoot with natural light as often as possible, which of course presents limitations once the depth increases beyond about 4m as the red and yellow light is quickly absorbed by the seawater, leaving only the blues. At scuba diving depths, some of the best natural light shots appear when looking back toward the water surface, with a combination of sunlight, water ripples, and reef silhouettes available for composition. This shot was taken on a recent trip with Undersea Explorer at Seymour bommie, a beautiful coral pinnacle behind Ribbon reef number 3. The number of plantivorous fish was absolutely astounding, and they formed a tower from the reef surface down at 20m, all the way to the surface.
(Olympus C7070WZ, F4, 1/1600, ISO 80, natural light).
